Writers and Artists GET-AWAY

This is an extraordinary opportunity for WCDR members to be part of an exciting cultural event.
An opportunity not only for The Writers' Circle of Durham Region, but all writers and artists.

KAREN BIGELOW, one of the founders of WCDR, has spent the last several years pursuing her other passion, painting. Today she is recognized as an exceptional artist, specializing in various techniques – acrylic, silverpoint, watercolour.

Her work has been featured in juried art exhibitions and a variety of local galleries. In 2010, her silverpoint "Badlands of Alberta" was accepted into the Canadian National Landscapes Exhibition.

In her search for inspiration, she has discovered a place that both fuels and nurtures her creative spirit - San Miguel de Allende, a beautiful Colonial town in the mountains of Central Mexico - a cultural hub for anyone who puts pen to paper or picks up a brush.

Now she would like to share her artistic passions with other writers and artists.

Join Karen in her artistic quest as she takes you to her favourite places. COME WALK WITH ME is a 15-day excursion to San Miguel de Allende that coincides with the town’s annual writers’ conference.

Bits of Encouragement and Traveller's Comments

I received an email from an artist friend and collegue that I wanted to share with you.

"Karen, I think your tour sounds great.  I have spent 16 winters in San Miguel
de Allende Mexico. Your tour definately covers all of the interesting places.
However, I want to stress the fascination of the 400 year-old history of San
Miguel de Allende. The walls and cobbled-streets eminate history, magic and
      mystery.
I have stayed in Casa de la Noche. A unique experience. One I have repeated.
Jamie as a tour operator is as good as they get.
      Enjoy!"

Lunch at one of the eating establishments recently re-claimed from ruins. Plein aire painting for three hours in Pozos with a stop at La Gruta mineral hotspring for a dip in the hotsprings on-route back to San Miguel. vØ^Ïä Day 12: Friday February 24-TOUR el Charco del Ingenio Botanical Garden and Las Colonias Reservoir-Plein Aire PAINTING and PICNIC

A guided tour and paradise for the adventurous artist, photographer and at-heart botanist. El Charco's unusual topography is a natural landscape of great biodiversity supporting a variety of species both plants and animals in its three distinct zones: canyon, wetlands and arid scrubland. The Botanical Garden protects and preserves cacti and other succulent Mexican plants, many of which are rare, threatened or in danger of extinction. The network of paths allow a close-up experience of this amazing and rugged landscape and appreciation of plant and animal life in a harsh environment. Sturdy footwear is essential. Painting cactus is a challenge not to be missed... a full day event... A picnic lunch in the Garden. Return by shuttle to Casa de la Noche and leisure time...(B, PL)
